Career
Chief Steve Hunt has dedicated his career to law enforcement since 1983, with an extensive background that spans multiple roles across various departments. He began his law enforcement journey in the State of Maine, where he spent over 30 years serving with the City of Bangor. During his tenure, Chief Hunt rose through the ranks, ultimately serving as a Lieutenant for his last 15 years of service at Bangor PD. His career also included sworn positions with the City of South Portland, the Hancock County Sheriff’s Office, and the Town of Veazie, along with three separate tours with the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency (MDEA), once as an agent and twice as a supervisor.
In the fall of 2020, Chief Hunt and his family relocated to Eustis, Florida. After completing an equivalency in training program, he attained his Florida Law Enforcement Certification. He then served as a detective with the Florida Department of Financial Services, specializing in insurance fraud investigations. He was also honored to be selected for the Governor’s Inauguration Protection Detail.
Chief Hunt became the Chief of Police for the Town of Lady Lake in the spring of 2023. He embraces a servant leadership style, focusing on mentoring and supporting the department’s officers in their professional development. Chief Hunt is proud to serve the citizens of Lady Lake, continually working to enhance the quality of service provided by the department and to ensure the community’s safety.
A graduate of Bangor Christian High School, the Maine Criminal Justice Academy, and the FBI National Academy Session 238, Chief Hunt also pursued higher education courses through the University of Maine and attended the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) Leadership in Police Organizations program. Throughout his career, he completed numerous supervisory and command-level courses, strengthening his ability to lead and serve. In addition to his law enforcement career, Chief Hunt is an avid outdoorsman and is a Registered Maine Guide.
