Sgt. Michelle Bilbrey
What inspired you to become a police officer and what keeps you motivated?
Although it sounds a little cliché, I got truly into law enforcement to help people, who by way of situation or circumstances cannot help themselves at that moment. From assisting the stranded motorist on the highway to a helping protect the victim(s) of domestic violence, those are some of my favorite days at work. My motivation comes from knowing I assisted someone and left them in a better position than when I found them.
In what ways have you seen your work positively impact the community?
As amazing as it seems, I have actually had a couple approach me to say thank you for arresting them in the past. They went on to explain they needed that catalyst to realize they were going down the wrong path in life. They then shared with me the positive changes in their life since then.
Can you talk about the importance of teamwork and camaraderie in your line of work?
Teamwork is the underlying constant in law enforcement. We often have to rely on each other daily in order to fulfill our jobs and simultaneously keep each other safe. Camaraderie naturally goes hand in hand with this type of reliance.
